Madaripur Sadar Hospital vandalised over patient’s death
Madaripur Sadar Hospital was vandalised today by family members of a patient who they say died of negligence.
The deceased was Shipon Matubbar (35), a construction worker. Police detained his elder brother Ripon Matubbar (38) following the vandalism, reports our Faridpur correspondent.
The incident happened around 5:00pm today.
Police and eyewitnesses said Shipon was critically injured when a trolley full of bricks overturned and fell on him.
After he was brought to the hospital, he was given primary treatment and admitted to the hospital where he died sometime later.
However, his relatives alleged that the oxygen was not given on time which caused the demise.
"We found out about the vandalism through a 999 call and went to the scene immediately, saw broken window glasses and furniture and later detained the deceased's brother for questioning," said Md Kamrul Islam Mia officer-in-charge (OC) of Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station.
"We will take further action if the hospital authority files a written complaint," he added.
