Councillor Murder: Another accused arrested
Another accused in the Cumilla's double-murder case was arrested yesterday.
Masum, 39, a resident of Cumilla city's Sangraish area, was held around 1:00pm in Chandia area, said Farooque Ahmed, superintendent of Cumilla police.
He is the number nine accused in the murder case filed by slain councillor Syed Mohammad Sohel's younger brother.
On Wednesday, the case's number four accused Sumon, 32, a resident of Cumilla city's Sujanagar Bou Bazar area, was arrested by Rab from Cumilla Medical College Hospital while undergoing treatment there.
There is a confusion among locals over Sumon's involvement in the murder.
Sumon has been having treatment at the hospital's urology department since 13 November, said its director Mustafizur Rahman.
He had a surgery on November 18, according to hospital records.
But the case statement says Sumon was one of those who murdered Sohel and his aide Haripada Das on November 22.
A video clip that shows two attackers opening fire and running went viral on social media.
Meanwhile, Cumilla City Corporation Mayor Monirul Haque Sakku, councillors and staffers formed a human chain in front of Cumilla Press Club around 11:00am demanding exemplary punishment of the killers. They also threatened to stop services from the city corporation unless the culprits were punished.
Local lawmaker AKM Baha Uddin Bahar visited the slain councillor's home yesterday and assured his family of ensuring justice.
