BNP leader Aslam among 56 indicted in sabotage case
A Joint Secretary General of BNP Aslam Chowdhury and 55 other people were indicted today in a case filed over the arson attack on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Sitakunda upazila under Chattogram district.
The court of 7th additional Chattogram District and Session Judge ASM Shahidullah Kaisar framed the charges, said the court sources.
Public Prosecutor (PP) of the court advocate Rubel Pal told our Chattogram staff correspondent that the court framed charges accusing BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury and 55 others. During the charge framing, the BNP leader along with eight others were present in the court.
"The rest of the accused are on the run and the court fixed January 23 next year for recording deposition," he said.
Police had filed a case after BNP men allegedly vandalized and set vehicles on fire on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway on November 8, 2013 under Sitakunda municipality area. The then Sub-Inspector (ASI) Faruk Ahmed of Sitakunda police station filed the case while police pressed charges against 56 including Aslam in 2015 after investigation.
On May 15, 2016, Aslam was picked up from the capital's Khilkhet area over an alleged plot with Israel to topple the Bangladesh government. After 11 days, he was sued for the alleged sedition on May 26, 2016. Since then Aslam is now in jail.
