Abduction Case: ASP, ASI, constable denied bail
A Dinajpur court yesterday denied bail to an ASP, ASI and a constable of the Criminal Investigation Department in Rangpur who stand accused in an abduction case.
Shishir Kumar Basu, judge of senior Judicial Magistrate's Court in Dinajpur, rejected the bail prayers of four people -- Sarwar Kabir Sohag, assistant superintendent of police, Hasinur Rahman, assistant sub-inspector, and Ahsanul Haque Faruk, constable, and their rental microbus driver Md Habib.
Defence lawyer Saiful Islam filed a petition seeking their bail.
The accused were not brought to the court yesterday.
On Thursday, another court rejected their bail petition.
According to the prosecution, a team of CID, led by ASP Sarwar, allegedly raided the home of Lutfar Rahman at Solemanshah para in the district's Chirirbandar upazila on August 23 night and picked up his son Jahangir Alam, 28, and wife Johura Begum, 50.
They went there in a rented microbus.
Later, they demanded Tk 15 lakh from the victims' family as ransom.
Their relatives agreed to pay them Tk 8 lakh. The next day, police of Dinajpur Sadar and Chirirbandar with the help of locals detained them.
On August 25, Jahangir filed an abduction case with Chirirbandar Police Station, accusing 10 people, including the three police personnel.
Police have so far arrested five accused.
The following day, the case was transferred to the detective branch.
Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the DB, and also the investigation officer of the case, said they were trying to arrest the other accused.
