The students of the university have been demonstrating, demanding justice for their fellow student who was gang-raped.
The victim, along with one of her friends, was walking on a street in Nabinbagh area around 9:30pm on February 23 when seven to eight unidentified men stopped them and took them to an under-construction building. There, they raped the female student and tortured her friend.
Meanwhile, members of teachers' association of BSMRSTU demonstrated in front of the university around 11am, protesting the rape incident and Thursday's attack on the agitators.
"We stand in a human chain to prevent such incidents on the sacred land of Gopalganj in future," said Prof Dr AQM Mahbub, vice-chancellor of BSMRSTU.
The students of the university on the other hand declared during a press briefing around 10:20am that they will continue agitation until their four-point demand is met.
They demonstrated around 12pm with blindfolds on protesting negligence of the university administration over this issue.
They are also scheduled to hold a candle-rally this evening on the campus.
