5 cops injured during "attack" from Jubo Dal procession in Chandpur
At least five police personnel including the officer-in-charge of Hajiganj Police Station were injured in an attack allegedly carried out by Jubo Dal activists from a possession at Hajiganj Bazar in Chandpur yesterday afternoon (October 29, 2022).
OC Mohammad Zubair Syed, Inspector (Investigation) Nazrul Islam, Sub-Inspector Mostaq Ahmed, ASI Masud Munshi and Constable Al Amin were injured in the attack, reports a correspondent quoting police.
They received primary treatment at the local health complex.
OC Zubair said a procession of Jubo Dal tried to enter the Hajiganj Bazar.
"Brickbats were hurled at police from the procession forcing them to fire 24 rounds of short gun bullets and six rounds of teargas shells to bring the situation under control," the OC claimed.
Meanwhile, 12 people were detained in this connection. However, no case has been filed till the filing of this report.
Akhter Hossain, convener of Hajiganj upazila unit Jubo Dal, said a procession from Toragarh area of Hajiganj municipality was on its way to a venue and faced police obstruction that triggered a clash.
Police fired tear gas shells and bullets to disperse them, he said, adding that none of their activists were injured in the clash.
