2 remanded for attempted robbery on Mohakhali flyover
A Dhaka court today placed two people on a one-day remand each in a case filed over attempted robbery on Mahakhali flyover in the capital yesterday.
The two accused are Ariyan Ahmed Joy, 23, and Md Forhad Hossain, 22.
Police, around 2:15 am yesterday, arrested a Rab member, Abdul Momen and two civilians -- Ariyan and Forhad-- for their alleged involvement in committing such offences.
However, the Rab member Momen was handed over to Bangladesh Army for his trial in the Court Martial as he is an army personnel, according to the remand prayer.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury passed the order after Mir Mahfuzur Rahman, a Sub-Inspector of Banani Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before it with a seven-day remand prayer.
In remand prayer, the IO said all the three accused, including Rab member, were directly involved with the incident. So, the two civilians need to be remanded to find out vital clues about the incident.
The defence, however, submitted two separate petitions, seeking bail along with the cancellation of the remand prayer on grounds that their clients were implicated in the case to harass them falsely.
Upon hearing both sides, the court turned down the defence pleas and placed them on remand for quizzing about the incident.
