1 dead after Brazil, Argentina fans clash in Habiganj
A man was killed following a clash between supporters of Argentina and Brazil football teams in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj this morning.
The deceased was identified as Shah Md Abdus Sahid, 55, father of one of the Argentina supporters who got into a clash with another Brazil supporter, said Prajit Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Bahubal Police Station.
OC Prajit said Argentina supporters brought out a procession after Brazil was defeated by Croatia in the Fifa World Cup 2022 quarterfinal match last night.
During the procession, Argentina supporter Shah Md Rukon Mia, and Brazil supporter Sajib Mia got into an argument over the match.
However, locals managed to stop the fight between Rukon and Sajib but then around 11:00am, Sajib's father Tenu Mia's followers attacked Rukon's father Sahid when he was returning home. Sahid suffered serious injuries during the attack.
He was admitted to Bahubal Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries, said the OC.
2 INJURED AS BRAZIL FANS ATTACK HOUSES IN RAJSHAHI
In Rajshahi, Brazil supporters, carrying sticks and iron rods, attacked houses of two Argentina fans in Bilshimla area, leaving two people injured.
The Brazil fans also vandalised their houses during the attack, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent.
The injured, Md Rifat Ali and Raihan Hossain, were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, Maidul Islam, said OC (investigation) of Rajpara Police Station.
Police visited the scene and recorded a general diary.
