Jordan’s agriculture sector would consider Bangladeshi workers
Bangladesh's participation in the growth of Jordan's agriculture sector would be considered, according to Jordan's agriculture minister. He said that the exchange of agricultural experience between Jordan and Bangladesh would benefit both countries' economic development.
Jordan's Agriculture Minister Khalid Huneifat made the remarks yesterday in the capital Amman, during a meeting with the Bangladesh Ambassador to Jordan, Nahida Sobhan.
The ambassador emphasised her interest in Bangladesh's participation in the Arab country's agriculture sector. A large number of Bangladeshis currently employed in the country's garment sector was also discussed during the meeting.
Bangladeshi workers in the Middle East are demonstrating remarkable agricultural skills, said Nahida Sobhan, adding that apart from the Middle East, Bangladeshi agricultural workers are in high demand in several European and African countries due to their experience. The Jordanian government may consider benefiting from Bangladeshi workers' experience in the sector, she said.
She went on to say that Bangladesh is now seen as a "role model" for progress in a variety of disciplines, including education, health, agriculture, information and technology, and women's empowerment -- under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership. Bangladesh has achieved food and fish production self-sufficiency.
Khalid Huneifat expressed interest in Bangladesh's participation in his country's agricultural development and assured the ambassador of active consideration.
The ambassador later expressed Bangladesh's interest in renewing the previously concluded agricultural agreement with Jordan and requested that various issues raised by Jordan be included in this year's possible Foreign Office Consultations.
