Ensuring nutritious food biggest challenge now: Agriculture Minister
Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque today said the big challenge for the country right now is to ensure nutritious food for all.
"There is no food crisis in the country even during the pandemic as we are self-sufficient in food grain production now," he said.
The minister said this while addressing a meeting virtually to review the progress of the implementation of the Annual Development Program (ADP) from the Secretariat this morning, read a press release issued by the agriculture ministry today.
The minister, also an Awami League presidium member, said, "One of the election pledges of the present government is to ensure nutritious food for all."
"We want to ensure the young and the next generation are more talented, and want to achieve this goal by tackling the challenges," he added.
Terming a report published in the media on October 24 as "baseless" and "untrue", the minister claimed that the news "misrepresented" or "partially misrepresented" his statement.
On October 24, according to reports, the agriculture minister urged people of the country to change their food habits -- eat other nutritious food and fruits and reduce rice consumption.
It was mentioned at the meeting that 60 projects are under implementation -- of the agriculture ministry -- in the current fiscal year 2021-22. The total allocation for them is Tk 2,958 crore.
Implementation progress has been 10.6 percent till September 2021. At the same time the national average progress has been 7.26 percent, read the press release.
The meeting was moderated by the ministry's Senior Secretary Md Mesbahul Islam.
Senior officials of the ministry and project directors were present at the meeting.
