Worker dies of snakebite at Patuakhali farm
A snake farm worker died of snakebite in Patuakhali Sadar upazila last night.
Jobbar Talukder of Hartukibaria village of the upazila had been working at Razzak Biswas' snake farm at Nandipara village, reports our Patuakhali correspondent.
According to police and locals, a snake bit Jobbar's left finger when he went to feed the snake around 10am yesterday. After he fell sick, Jobbar was taken to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital around 5pm where he died around 9pm.
"His body was sent to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy," said Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Patuakhali Sadar Police Station.
The snake farm's owner, Razzak Biswas, claims to have over 300 venomous snakes on his property. The farm's goal is to collect venom from these snakes and sell it.
But he is not supposed to do it without the approval of the relevant government department, the OC said, adding that legal action is being taken in this regard.
Razzak also said that the snake farm was built at his home in 2007.
