Sunken waterbus pulled out from Buriganga
The waterbus, which capsized after a sand-laden bulk carrier rammed it in the Buriganga near Telghat area of Keraniganj, was pulled out of the river 12 hours after the incident.
"A rescue ship, MV Rustom, dragged up the waterbus from the riverbed around 8:00am today," Farhadul Alam, duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters, told The Daily Star this morning.
Fire Service workers have resumed their rescue operation this morning, he added.
The collision took place around 8:15pm last night when the waterbus from Dhaka's Sadarghat was approaching its destination in Telghat. Around 60 people were on the vessel, Sub-Inspector Rezaul Karim of Sadarghat River Police Station, who was in charge of the rescue mission, told The Daily Star yesterday.
So far three bodies have been recovered. Two of the three deceased have been identified -- Md Fahim, 22, of Joypara of Dhaka's Dohar upazila and Md Ali, 14, of Chunkuthia of Keraniganj.
It is believed that most of the passengers swam ashore as it sank near the shore.
