Road accidents kill 4 in 3 districts
Four persons, including a schoolboy, were killed and four others were injured in separate road accidents today (June 9, 2022) in Dinajpur, Kishoreganj and Thakurgaon districts.
In Dinajpur, a sand-laden truck hit a rickshaw-van on Dinajpur-Rangpur highway in Bhushirbandar area of Chirirbandar upazila around 5:00pm, leaving two persons dead on the spot and one other injured, reports our Dinajpur correspondent quoting ANM Masud, in-charge of Dashmile Highway Police Outpost.
The deceased were Amin Islam (48) and Madhab Mali Sanu (45), and the injured Merin Begum (35).
Locals rescued the injured and took her to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where she is undergoing treatment, the police official said.
The truck managed to flee the scene after the incident. Police are looking into the matter, he added.
In Kishoreganj, a pick-up van hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Katiadi upazila this morning, leaving it driver dead on the spot and two passengers injured, reports our Kishoreganj correspondent quoting Toufikul Islam, in-charge of Katiadi Highway Police outpost.
The deceased was identified as Shipan mia (30), and the injured were Sabuj (50) and Sharif (38).
The incident happened in bus-stand area of the upazila when the pick-up van hit the auto-rickshaw coming from opposite direction and immediately fled the scene, the police official said.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to Kishoreganj Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College where they are being treated, he added.
In Thakurgaon, locals blocked the Pirganj-Ranishankoil road under the Pirganj municipality for an hour this afternoon protesting the death of a schoolboy in a road accident.
The deceased was identified as Milon Islam (16). He died on the spot after a Ranishankoil-bound truck hit his bicycle when he was returning home from school around 1:00 pm, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent quoting Md Jahangir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Pirganj Police Station.
Milon's pillion was also critically injured in the accident.
Soon after the accident, aggrieved locals placed barricades on the road at the western intersection of Pirganj municipality protesting the student's death, halting vehicular movement for an hour, the OC said.
On information, police went to the spot and managed to free the road around 3:00 pm after assuring people of taking proper steps in this regard, he also said.
The law enforcers also seized the truck but its driver and helper managed to flee the scene, OC Jahangir added.
