Road crashes kill 5 in Cumilla, Chapainawabganj
Five people died and six were injured in separate road accidents in Cumilla and Chapainawabganj today.
Jafar Ahmed, an inspector of Cumilla's Monohorganj Police Station, said a Dhaka-bound bus from Noakhali rammed a three-wheeler after hitting a tractor and a pickup van in the Nather Petua area on Cumilla-Noakhali regional highway around 10:30 am.
The driver and two passengers of the three-wheelers died on the spot. Three other passengers sustained injuries in the accident, the police officer said.
In Chapainawabganj, two people died when a truck hit an auto-rickshaw at Piling intersection in Shibganj upazila.
The deceased are Renuara Begum (55) and Harun (26), reports our Chapainawabganj correspondent, quoting Farid Hossain, officer-in-charge of Shibganj Police Station.
Three people were also injured in the accident. Among them, two were rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital while another was at Shibganj Upazila Health Complex.
The truck driver and his assistant were detained, and the vehicle was seized.
