6 killed in 2 road accidents in Gaibandha
At least six people were killed and two others injured in two separate road accidents in Gaibandha's Palashbari and Gobindaganj upazilas today.
In Palashbari, four people were killed and two others were injured when a goods-laden truck ran over a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Gidaripur area on the Bogura-Rangpur highway around 5:30pm, reports our Bogura correspondent citing fire service and police officials.
The CNG-run auto-rickshaw and the truck were both headed in the same direction and overtaking may have been the cause of the accident, said Sayed Md Emran, station officer of Palashbari Fire Service and Civil Defense Station.
The driver of the auto-rickshaw and two passengers including a woman died on the spot and three others were injured, the official said.
One other person succumbed to his injuries while being taken to hospital, said Masud Rana, officer-in-charge of Palashbari Police Station.
The two other injured are undergoing treatment at Palashbari upazila health complex. The truck fled the scene after the accident, the OC also said.
The identities of the victims could not be known immediately, he added.
In Gobindaganj upazila, two men died in a motorcycle accident on Rajabirat-Gobindaganj road around 10:00am, police told our Bogura correspondent.
The deceased were identified as Ful Mia (23), of Khamarpara village, and his friend Abdus Salam (21) of Hathatpara village under the upazila.
They were on a motorcycle on their way to Pirapur village from Hathatpara. Near Panditpur village on Rajabirat-Gobindaganj road the rider lost control while taking a U-turn and hit a roadside tree, said Milon Chatterjee, inspector (IC) of the Boiragihat Police Investigation Centre under Gobindaganj upazila.
The accident left both the men dead on the spot, the police official added.
