2 killed in three-vehicle collision on Bangabandhu bridge link road
Two people were killed and nine others injured in an accident involving three vehicles on the east link road of Bangabandhu Bridge in Tangail today.
Mohammad Rezaul Karim, assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Tangail, said a truck collided head-on with a covered van around 11:00am, and soon afterwards a bus hit both vehicles at Dhalatengor area in Kalihati upazila.
The truck driver was killed on the spot and 10 others were injured, the official said.
Firefighters rushed to the spot and sent three of the seriously injured to Tangail General Hospital for treatment, our local correspondent reports.
One of the injured later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital, said Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Reckless driving and overtaking were reasons behind the accident, the OC said quoting witnesses.
After the accident, a one-kilometre tailback of several hundred vehicles was created on the busy highway until police removed the wreckage from the road, transport workers said.
