Ex-Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry killed in Maharashtra car accident
Cyrus Mistry, former chairman of Tata Sons --one of India's biggest industrial groups-- was killed today (September 4, 2022) when the Mercedez Benz car carrying him hit a road divider in western Indian state Maharashtra's Palghar district neighbouring Mumbai, a senior police officer said.
Mistry (54) was travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai when the incident took place, said the police official, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
"The accident happened around 3:15 pm when Mistry was travelling to Mumbai from Ahmedabad. It happened on a bridge over the Surya River. It seems an accident," said Palghar district Superintendent of Police Balasaheb Patil.
The other two persons travelling with him, including the car driver, were injured. They have been shifted to a hospital in Gujarat, he said.
Mistry's body has been sent to Kasa Rural Hospital for postmortem.
Cyrus Mistry was the younger son of late Pallonji Mistry, owner of the Shapoorji Pallonji group and the biggest stakeholder in the Tata group.
Mistry had replaced Ratan Tata as executive chairman after the latter stepped down on turning 75 in 2012. Mistry was the second person from outside the Tata family to head one of India's biggest industrial groups in the 142 years of its existence.
Born on July 4, 1968, Mistry did his graduation in civil engineering from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London. He also held a Master's degree in management from the London Business School.
