Punishment to factory authorities demanded
Karmojibi Nari (KN) President Shirin Akter and General Secretary Sharmin Kabir in a joint statement yesterday demanded punishment to Knit Cotton Composite Ltd authorities who didn't grant a worker maternity leave, says a press release.
It is alleged that the death of Mahima Akter, who was expecting a child, resulted from overwork during pregnancy as the authorities refused to grant her maternity leave.
Mahima had been working with the knit factory at Fatullah in Narayanganj for six years. She was allegedly sacked by the factory authorities, who hadn't even paid her due salary, for demanding maternity leave.
The KN leaders demanded punishment to the persons responsible and compensation to the family of the deceased.
They also stressed on enforcing labour law in this regard and termed the incident as outrageous.
