4 among 3 of a family killed as train rams autorickshaw
Four people were killed and 2 others injured, one of them critically, when a passenger train rammed a autorickshaw at Dogoria railway crossing under Nangolkot upazila of the district yesterday.
Police said they could identify three of the dead as Abdul Kadir, 60, his wife Amirunnessa, 45, and son Md Ibrahim, 9, of Narayanpur village under Monohorgang upazila.
The identity of the fourth passenger, who died on the spot, could not be known even late in the evening.
Critically injured were rushed to Comilla Medical College and Hospital.
The accident took place at about 10:30am when the Dhaka-bound Samatot passenger train hit a Laksam-bound autorickshaw at Dogoria railway crossing, five kilometres afar from Nangolkot Railway Station.
An eyewitness said ignoring the warning of the passengers, the driver drove the autorickshaw fast through the rail crossing when the train was only 10 yards away.
Railway sources said there was no pointsman at Dorgoria railway crossing at the time of the accident.
Communication from Noakhali to other parts of the country remained suspended for about one and a half hours.
High officials of the railway, police and district administration visited the spot.
