11 killed as truck crushes 3-wheeler
Eleven people were killed and one was injured as a truck crushed a three-wheel passenger van at Saitrish on the Magura-Jhenidah highway yesterday.
The victims were passengers of the three-wheeler.
The goods-laden truck around 4:15pm rammed into the three-wheeler, which was standing on the roadside, and fell in a ditch, said a witness, Zafar Sheikh of village Saitrish. The accident left 11 passengers of the three-wheeler dead on the spot.
Quoting locals, Sheikh Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Magura Sadar Police Station, said the accident took place due to careless driving of the trucker.
Following the accident, hundreds of locals put up a barricade on the road disrupting vehicular movement until 6:40pm. They withdrew the protest after a discussion with police officials.
Seven of the deceased were identified as Parveen, 27, of village Majhayeel in Sreepur upazila of Magura district, her daughters Sumaya, 7, and four-months-old Suraya, daughter and sons of Abul Kashem of village Hatgopalpur in Jhenidah district-- Madina, 2, Sohag, 12, and Alamin, 14-- and Prabir Kumar Ghosh of village Ag-Shukna in Baliakandi upazila of Rajbari district.
The identity of the rest could not be known immediately.
