Ex-AL whip Suja acquitted
The High Court (HC) yesterday acquitted former Awami League lawmaker and whip Mostafa Rashidi Suja and his wife Khodeza Rashidi, who were sentenced in a corruption case during the caretaker government.
A special court on March 12, 2008 sentenced Suja to 13 years' imprisonment for acquiring illegal wealth and providing false statement to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) while Khodeza was awarded three years' imprisonment for abetting him accumulate the wealth.
An HC bench of Justice Md Abdul Hye and Justice Md Abdur Razzaque scrapped their jail sentences after granting their appeal challenging the special court verdict.
They filed the appeal with the HC on May 22, 2009.
Advocate Abdul Baset Majumder appeared for Suja couple while advocate MA Aziz Khan argued for ACC.
