HC scraps Noakhali-6 poll results

Orders by-polls

Md Fazlul Azim, independent member of parliament, lost his seat Noakhali-6 following a High Court election tribunal order yesterday declaring void the election result.
Delivering the judgment, a one-member election tribunal with Justice M Emdadul Haque asked the Election Commission to hold by-election to that constituency.
In the judgment, the court observed that the election process was affected materially with the change of a polling centre and redistribution of voters in nine centres on the polling day violating the prescribed rules.
The election tribunal order came upon a petition filed by Ayesha Ferdous, another independent candidate, who challenged the validity of the
election result.
Barrister M Amir-Ul Islam, assisted by advocate Shamim Haider Talukder, appeared for the petitioner, while barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud stood for independent MP Fazlul Azim.
