Country has plunged into disastrous situation

Say Ctg BNP leaders

The country has plunged into a socio-economic and political disaster in less than 13 months of the Awami League rule, Chittagong BNP leaders said yesterday.
Speaking at a press conference at a local hotel, they said astounding gathering at Monday's Chittagong rally showed that people now want guidelines from the opposition leader to rid of the ruinous situation.
The briefing was organised to thank leaders, activists and supporters of the party and people from all strata of life for making the rally a success.
Chittagong City BNP President Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said the AL enforced as many as eight general strikes in the first 13 months of the past BNP government though the country at that time did not witness such crises of gas, power and water.
However, Opposition Leader Khaleda Zia did not go for any negative or anarchic programme till date since BNP wants to give the government scope to fulfill it's electoral pledges made to the countrymen, he said.
BNP Chittagong south district President Jafrul Islam Chowdhury MP, Chittagong north district General Secretary Aslam Chowdhury, former chief whip Syed Wahidul Alam, Mostafa Kamal Pasha MP, Chittagong city BNP General Secretary Dr Shahadat Hossain, Dostagir Chowdhury and Abu Sufian, among others, spoke at the press conference.
They strongly criticised the AL government's foreign policy, saying it is putting the independence and sovereignty of the country at stake.
The government could not go for trial of Pilkhana carnage that made a dent in Bangladesh Riffles and left the border unprotected. Instead it is now doing politics with the tragic BDR killings, the BNP leaders alleged.
They further alleged that the government even could not put up any resistance or register any remarkable protest against the killings of Bangladeshi people on the border by the Border Security Force of India.
The BNP leaders expected that the AL government would correct its stance soon and bring back the country on the right track.
