Lighter vessel damaged at Ctg port
A lighter vessel carrying 55,000 tonnes of clinker developed a crack at the bottom after it hit a submerged vessel at the outer anchorage of Chittagong port today.
MV Nasa unloaded the cement-making raw material from mother vessel MV Oyadi al Boston near Patenga sea beach around 7:30pm, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
When MV Oyadi al Boston tried to move away from the outer anchorage, MV Nasa, which was tied with the mother vessel, lost its control.
Nasa became unsteady and wobbly and battered a submerged vessel, MV Sundarban, said Capt Nazmul Alam, deputy conservator of the port.
The 13 crews of MV Nasa jumped on to another vessel anchored next to it, he said.
Later, the vessel was tugged towards Patenga sea beach.
