Khaleda for disbanding Rab
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday demanded that the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) force be disbanded, alleging the elite force has now become involved in "killings, abductions and forced disappearances".
"People think there is no necessity for Rab anymore as they are now killing people in exchange for money," Khaleda said while talking to the family members of Sajedul Islam Sumon at their Shaheenbagh residence in the capital last night.
"Law enforcers" picked up Sumon, general secretary of word No 32 of Dhaka city unit BNP, last month, his family alleged.
Family members of seven BNP leaders, who were abducted in the last couple of months, were also present at the house.
Khaleda also demanded immediate action against the elite force members for their alleged involvement in killings, abductions and forced disappearances.
The elite force was formed to tackle militancy and serious crimes. But from the beginning, the force has been accused of committing extra judicial killings, she said.
Khaleda alleged that the government was using the elite force to oppress the opposition.
She demanded the return of all leaders and activists of BNP, who were picked up allegedly by law enforcers, alive.
