7 killed as bus plunges into ditch

At least seven people were killed and 20 others injured as a bus skidded of a road and fell into a ditch following a collision with a motorcycle in Feni's Daganbhuiyan yesterday.

The Chandpur-bound bus from Chittagong plunged into the ditch in Amirgaon area around 6:00pm, said police, quoting witnesses.

Three people were killed on the spot. The others died on their way to hospitals.

The injured, including three motorcyclists, were taken to various hospitals, including Feni Sadar Hospital. Four of them were in a critical condition, said Ashim Kumar Saha, resident surgeon at the hospital.

The deceased included the bus driver, Mohammad Hanif, 63, of Chittagong's Sandwip, and passenger Abul Kalam, 40, of Bhola, Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Daganbhuiyan Police Station, said.

Identities of the other deceased could not be confirmed immediately.
