Ex-Rab man Rana makes confession
Former Rab officer SM Masud Rana today made confessional statement admitting to his involvement in the killing of seven people including Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam.
Rana gave confessional statement before a Narayanganj court under Section 164 of Code of Criminal Procedure, advocate Shakhawat Hossain, a counsel for the law enforcers, told The Daily Star.
During the seven-hour statement starting at 8:00am, Rana admitted to his role in the killing of Nazrul, senior lawyer Chandan Sarkar and five others, said Hossain, also president of Narayanganj District Lawyers Association.
Rana was sent to jail around 3:00pm.
The ex-Rab man was charged with the seven-murder murder on May 25, a week after he was arrested from Dhaka cantonment area.
Three Rab men – Rana, Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad and Major Arif Hossain -- were sent on forced retirements on May 6 for their alleged involvement in the gruesome abduction and killing of the seven people whose bodies were later found in the Shitalakkha River.
On April 27, Nazrul and his three aides -- Tajul, Liton, and Swapan -- and Nazrul's driver Jahangir and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and his driver Ibrahim were kidnapped separately.
Rana’s confession came a day after Maj Arif admitted to his involvement in sensational seven-murder before a court.
