Up to 103 TCF gas hydrates found in Bay of Bengal: Foreign Ministry
A new survey in the Bay has found presence of 17 to 103 TCF (trillion cubic feet) of gas hydrates.
Besides, the survey also found presence of seaweed that could be used as raw material for fish and animal feed and cosmetic products like soap and shampoo.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the revelations at a press conference today.
"We import raw materials worth TK 28,000 crore every year. We can produce these in the country if we make investments here," Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said.
This will, however, require large scale investment, said Rear Admiral Khurshed Alam (retd), Secretary of Maritime Affairs Unit at the Ministry.
"Initially, we would like to invite the local companies, not foreign investors," he said.
