Our Correspondent, Chapainawabganj

Local people formed a human chain and held a rally at Liton Bridge intersection in Naogaon district town yesterday, demanding immediate steps to save the Chhoto Jamuna River from pollution and grabbers.

Local organisations--Nadi O Jalashay Raksha Committee and Alokito Naogaon--jointly organised the programmes.

Addressing the rally, the speakers said a large quantity of fishes recently died as untreated wastes from Joypurhat Sugar Mill polluted water of the 56 kilometers long river.

They also urged the government to take necessary steps to stop pollution and encroachment.

Nazmul Haque Sunny, mayor of Naogaon municipality, Abdullah Kafi, president of Nadi O Jalashay Raksha Committee, and SM Abu Zafor, president of Naogaon Zila Nagorik Parishad, among others, spoke.
