Police active only after minister's cows stolen!
Hearing the news of recovery of some stolen cows by police, a number of people, whose cows were stolen in Phulbari upazila recently, gathered on the local police station premises yesterday, only to return home disheartened when they learnt that the recovered cattle belong to an incumbent minister.
Police recovered four cows which were stolen from a dairy farm owned by Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman, also the local lawmaker.
The law enforcers also detained five people in connection with the incident, but declined to disclose their identities.
A gang of thieves lifted 10 cows from the minister's farm, at Rajarampur-Fakirpara village, on January 26.
Police raided a dairy farm in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat early yesterday and recovered four of the stolen cows.
Villagers alleged that as many as 150 cows were stolen from different villages in the upazila but police are reluctant to recover any of those cows belonging to the poor villagers.
“Police took prompt action for the minister's cows, but what about ours?” villager Altaf Mondal said.
Officer-in-Charge of Phulbari Police Station Sheikh Nasim Habib said they were trying to recover the other stolen cows as well.
