Yaba worth Tk 9cr seized in Teknaf
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Bangladesh Coastguard in separate drives seized two consignments of Yaba tablets in Teknaf on Wednesday and the day before.
However, the smugglers managed to flee the areas, sensing the presence of BGB and Coastguard personnel.
The value of the recovered Yaba tablets is about Tk 9 crore, said an official of Coastguard.
Assistant Director (Intelligence) of Coastguard Abdullah Al Maruf said 1.5 lakh Yaba tablets worth about Tk 7.5 crore were recovered in a drive at Jaliapara village in Teknaf upazila on Wednesday midnight.
Getting information about the drive, two people, who were carrying sacks full of Yaba tablets, abandoned those and fled the scene, he said.
In another drive, 50,000 Yaba tablets worth about Tk 1.5 crore have been recovered from Nayapara village in the same union on Tuesday, said Asaduzzaman Chowdhury, director of BGB 2 Battalion.
None could be arrested during the drive. Sensing the presence of BGB patrol team, the Yaba smugglers managed to flee the scene.
Nayapara and Jaliapara in Sabrang union of Teknaf upazila are known as “Yaba villages”.
