Two butchers jailed, another fined
Two butchers were jailed while another was fined for selling rotten meat in Tangail and Pirojpur yesterday, report our correspondents.
A mobile court in Kalihati upazila of Tangail sentenced two butchers to one year’s imprisonment each for slaughtering a sick cow and selling the meat in the market.
The convicts are Mohammad Nasir Udin, 30, and Bokul Hossain, 40, of Balla Modhyapara village in the upazila.
Executive Magistrate Shahrier Rahman led the court.
The magistrate said the duo took away a sick cow from a local Hindu family and slaughtered it.
When the butchers were selling the rotten meat in Karatia market, the magistrate, on information, rushed to the spot and detained them.
The two were later produced before the court, led by the magistrate, that pronounced the verdict.
Meanwhile, a mobile court in Pirojpur town fined a butcher Tk 30,000 for selling rotten meat in a local market.
The convict is Masud Sheikh, son of late Abdus Sobahan Sheikh of Sheikhpara area in the town.
Executive Magistrate Mofizur Rahman led the court, said Delwar Hossain Jasim, sub-inspector of Detective Branch of police in Pirojpur.
