Two brothers hacked to death over ‘political-rivalry’ in Kushtia
Two brothers were brutally hacked to death possibly over a political rivalry today in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia.
The incident took place around 7:00pm at Paharpur village, reports our Kushtia correspondent quoting police.
The deceased were identified as Nehed Ali, 55, and his brother Gokul Ali, 50, both residents of the village. They were also followers of Ferozur Rahman Kota, a member of Chapra Union Parishad and a ruling party leader, said Jahangir Alam, officer-in-charge of Kumarkhali Police Station.
Quoting locals, the OC said Kota and his men locked in an altercation over a trivial matter with members of another rival local leader Abdur Razzak, also president of Chapra union unit Awami League, this afternoon.
Nehed and Gokul, however, were not involved in the altercation, OC Jahangir Alam said.
Later, the matter was solved at an arbitration held at Badhbazar Police Camp around 5:30pm.
Following the arbitration, Razzak's supporters approached Kota's house in Badhbazar area and hurled brickbats at it and abused him.
Some of Razzak's men later swooped on Nehed and Gokul, who were passing by the area on their way home, and took them near the house of one Banu Mondal in Paharpur village where the siblings were hacked indiscriminately with sharp weapons and left dead on the spot, the police official also said.
Police are investigating the incident and strict steps will be taken against the culprits after investigation, the OC added.
