Three abducted in Rangamati

Three people involved with the MN Larma faction of Parbatya Chattogram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) were abducted early today, police said.

Samiron Chakma (40), a local ward member; Purno Kishor Chakma (65), a retired primary school teacher; and Merin Chakma (32) were abducted in Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati, reports our Bandarban correspondent.

"They were picked up at gunpoint from their homes in different areas," Baghaichhari Union Parishad Chairman Sunil Bihari Chakma said, quoting locals.

All of them were involved in activities of the MN Larma faction of PCJSS, said MA Manzur, officer-in-charge of Baghaichhari Police Station.

"They could have been abducted for being supporters of the faction and also for being relatives of some of its frontline leaders," the OC told The Daily Star.

No case was filed in this connection till filing of this report.
