Rooppur power plant graft: Suspended engineer denied bail
The High Court today refused to grant bail to an engineer in three separate cases filed over the much-talked corruption allegation in purchasing furniture and household items for officials of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna.
The court in its virtual hearing also kept three bail petitions of accused Md Shafiqul Islam, a suspended deputy assistant engineer of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project, "stand over" (waiting for hearing) till its reopening after ongoing closure.
The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder passed the order after hearing the three bail petitions of Shafiqul in connection with the cases against him.
On December 12 last year, the ACC filed the cases with its Pabna district office against Shafiqul and several others on charges of irregularities involving Tk 26 crore in supplying furniture and household items to the officials of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. Shafiqul was also arrested on that day.
