People of 20 villages suffer for want of bridge
Thousands of people of 20 villages under Rotandia union of Kalukhali upazila in Rajbari are suffering for want of a permanent bridge over a canal (locally called Mora Padma) in Haru Mollah Ghat area.
Locals said the people of Sabhairepara, Loskerdia, Khapurepara, Sader Bazar, Holuday Danga, Keisapara, Hathatpara, Krishnanagar, Madhobpur, Bijoynagar, Rupsha, Dhanbaria, Mohendrapur and Notunpara villages on the northern side, and Gonganondapur, Badhpara, Rooppur, Ulubaria, Rotandia, Arpara villages on the southern side use a bamboo bridge to cross the canal to go to their destinations, including the district headquarters, but the bridge has turned risky due to use by a large number of people and the northern side has gone under water.
“A large number of farmers carrying agricultural produce face trouble every time while crossing the canal over the bamboo bridge to go to the market in Kalukhali,” said Khorshed Pramanik, a farmer of Gonganondapur.
“We need a permanent bridge as we need to go to upazila headquarters for different purposes every day. Besides, local farmers suffer very much for want of a bridge,” said Masud Pramanik of the same village.
“We know that a permanent bridge is very much needed at Haru Mollah Ghat. We have already completed all kinds of survey in the area. We will test the soil soon and then we shall make the design of the bridge,” said Upazila Department of Local Government and Rural Development Engineer Noni Gopal Das.
