Four held for killing woman for dowry
Police on Saturday arrested four people in connection with a case for killing a seven-month pregnant housewife for dowry in Kulaura upazila on Thursday.
The deceased, Majeda Begum, 21, was wife of Abdul Mukit of Dakkhin Pabai village in the upazila.
Police arrested victim's mother-in-law Afia Begum, 50, brother-in-law Mostaq Ahmed, 20, Zayed Ahmed, 23, and Abdul Jalil, 32, after Majeda's mother Kabirunnesa filed a case with Kulaura Police Station on Friday.
According to the case statement, Majeda was married to Mukit, who serves as a cook at a restaurant in Sylhet city, in September last year.
Since their marriage, Mukit and his family members often used to torture Majeda for dowry.
Kabirunnesa said one of Majeda's in-laws informed them that Majeda had died .
They also tried to bury the body hurriedly, she added.
In suspicion, they informed the matter to police, who recovered Majeda's body and sent it to the hospital for autopsy, Kabirunnesa further added.
