Elderly man killed over trivial matter
An elderly man was killed over a trivial matter at Char Gohordanga village in Tungipara upazila of Gopalganj district yesterday morning.
The deceased was farmer Omar Ali Bhuiyan, 70, son of late Sattar Ali Bhuiyan of the village.
Police and locals said Omar Ali asked Alauddin Sikder, 35, son of Nobir Uddin Sikder, for saying prayers at a local mosque. They locked into an altercation over the issue on Friday evening.
At one stage, Nobir kicked the victim, leaving him seriously injured. He was rushed to Tungipara Upazila Health Complex and then shifted to Gopalganj General Hospital as his condition worsened.
Omar Ali died at Gopalganj General Hospital around 6:30am yesterday, said AKM Anamul Kabir, officer-in-charge of Tungipara Police Station.
The body was sent to Gopalganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy, said the OC.
Action will be taken against the accused after a case is filed in this regard, said the police official.
