Challenged boy burnt alive
A mentally challenged boy was burnt alive in a fire in Nama Dighirpar area of Gafargoan upazila yesterday.
The victim was Mohammad Meraz, 12, son of Mezbah Ul Alam alias Babul of the area.
The fire originated from an electric short circuit at the house of Mezbah and soon spread to another house around 11:15am.
At that time, Meraz was burnt alive, said Md Shahinuzzaman Khan, officer-in-charge of Pagla Police Station.
The loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk 3 lakh, said the family members.
On information, firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the blaze. Later, the charred body was recovered.
In another fire incident on Wednesday, a shoe godown at a multi-storied building was gutted in Mymensingh city.
The fire might have originated from a short circuit, said Md Shahidur Rahman, assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defense, Mymensingh.
The fire broke out at the fifth floor of the building around 6:45pm, he said.
