‘Bring killers to book’
The family members of slain Jubo League leader Rezaul Karim Russel demanded immediate arrest and capital punishment of the prime accused.
The victim’s father Jalal Uddin came up with the demand at a press conference at Mymensingh Press Club yesterday.
“We want nothing but the capital punishment of the killers, but it is a matter of great regret that the prime suspect is still at large,” said Jalal.
On May 14, a gang stabbed Russel, 34, to death near Mrittunjoy School in the city. The deceased was a member of the district unit of Jubo League.
Later, Russel’s father Jalal Uddin, a resident of Char Haripur village in Sadar upazila, filed a murder case with Kotwali Police Station against 14 people including Abdullah Al Mamun Arif, ex-president of Mymensingh city unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, as the prime accused.s
“Police arrested three youths but the prime accused is still at large and threatening us to with draw the murder case,” Jalal said at the press conference.
The arrestees are Mobarak Hossain, 25, Azizul Islam, 33, and Netai, 30, of the city.
The trio confessed to their involvement in the murder, said Akram Hossain, sub-inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police, also the investigation officer of the case.
