A gang of criminals felled around 3000 banana trees and damaged lentils on large piece of land at Islampur village in Pabna Sadar upazila on Tuesday night.
Victim Azmal Mandol, a farmer of the village, said he had spent Tk 10 lakh for cultivating banana and lentils on 12 bighas of land. of the land, Banana was cultivated on six bighas. He took the money as loan.
He was expecting to earn Tk 2 to Tk 3 lakh from farming banana and lentils, said Azmal.
"But I am undone now after the banana trees were felled and the lentils damaged by a gang," he said, adding that he took lease of 12 bighas of land from his relative Aziz Hossain Sheikh.
Azmal filed a case with Pabna Sadar Police Station against unknown people, but anyone is yet to be arrested.
"I have no enmity with anyone in the village, so I cannot find any reason behind felling the banana trees and damaging the crop. Now I do not know how to recover the huge loss," said Azmal.
They are investigating the incident, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station Md Nasim Ahmed.
Police were raiding different areas to arrest the accused, said the OC.
