3 students drowned in Dinajpur

Three students, including two of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), drowned as a boat capsized in Ashurar Beel in Nawabganj upazila of Dinajpur this afternoon.

The deceased were Md Rafid rahat, 24, second year student of Fisheries department, Ashfaq Dipto, 25, a fourth-year student of Civil Engineering of HSTU, and Faria Moumi,20, a 1st year HSC student of Dinajpur Government Women College.

Subrata Sarkar Officer-in-Charge of Nawabganj Police Station said five students of HSTU and Dinajpur Government Women College went to Ashurar Beel by a bus around 1:00pm and hired a small boat.

The trio drowned in the water after the boat capsized in the waterbody. Immediately after the incident, locals rescued them and rushed them to Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex, where Dr Al Amin, residential medical officer of the health complex, declared them dead.

Fazlul Haque Registrar of HSTU confirmed the incident.
