3 held for killing Singapore expat
Detectives arrested three men from the district and Dhaka on Tuesday on charge of killing a man in Basail upazila under the district.
The arrestees are Jahirul Chowdhury, 27, Manjurul Alam, 33, and Abdul Chowdhury, 50, of Sydampur village in Basail upazila.
The victim, Keshab Chandra Sarkar, 45, son of Bhumchan Mandol of Sydampur village, returned to the country about six months ago from Singapore. He went missing from the village on December 6, family members said.
Police recovered the body from a crop field at the village on December 13.
The following day, the victim's wife Rita Rani Sarkar filed a case with Basail Police Station against unidentified criminals.
The arrestees were produced before the Judicial Magistrate's Court in Tangail and they gave confessional statements before the magistrate under Section 164, said Jahangir Alam, sub-inspector of Detective Branch of police in Tangail.
In the statements, the trio admitted that they hacked Keshab dead following a dispute over the money that they owed him, said the SI.
One of the main accused is still on the run, he said.
