Manikganj, Bogra freed this day
Manikganj and Bogra were freed on this day in 1971.
Our Manikganj correspondent reports: Under the leadership of Captain Abdul Halim Chowdhury, the freedom-loving people of the then sub-division (now district) vowed to resist the Pakistani army in March, 1971.
In late November, freedom fighters defeated Pakistani troops in a few battles.
Finally they declared the area free on December 13, hoisting the National Flag atop the Primary Training Institute in the town.
Our Bogra correspondent adds: On this day, the northern district was also freed as the Pakistan occupation army and their local collaborators surrendered to the freedom fighters and Indian allied forces.
