JKNNU students padlock university gate; admission test postponed
A practical examination for the admission seekers of Jatiya Kabi Nazrul Islam University (JKNNU) in Mymensigh was postponed today for an indefinite period as some students locked the main gate of the university’s administrative building protesting a probe against a teacher.
According to the university sources, students of Human Resource Management (HRM) department of JKNNU shut the administrative building gate at 11:00am demanding cancellation of an inquiry into an allegation against the chairperson of their department.
Proctor of the university Dr Ujjal Kumar Pradhan told The Daily Star that a month ago, students of the JKNNU’s Accounting department filed a complaint against the HRM department chairman Prof Rafiqul Amin.
The accounting department students had alleged that Prof Rafiqul gave them marks in a course without taking any examination, he said.
Prof Rafiqul used to teach a course of the Accounting department due to shortage of teachers in that department, he added.
Taking the complaint into cognizance, the university authority formed a three-member probe body to investigate the allegation, said the Proctor.
The probe will start tomorrow. Thus the students of HRM department shut down the administrative building gate demanding its cancellation, he said.
The Proctor, however, assured that a fresh date for the practical examination of the admission seekers will be announced later adding that they are trying to solve the problem.
The gate was locked till filling of this report.
