Govt to respond to Unesco report next week
Bangladesh government will respond next week to a report sent by Unesco requesting it to conduct a revised Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) before going ahead with the Rampal power plant.
Emerging from a seminar in Dhaka city, State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid told this to journalists today, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports.
“The government is conscious about the preservation of the Sundarbans as it is our national resource,” the daily reported quoting the state minister.
Following the visit of a three-member reaction mission team from the Unesco, a report was sent to the government last month, seeking a specific assessment of the potential impacts of a thermal power plant near the Sundarbans and the dredging of the Pashur river, said a source.
