A freedom fighter in Mymensingh’s Trishal today sued a running lawmaker and 24 others for crimes committed against humanity during 1971 Liberation War.
The MP is Abdul Hannan, a Jatiya Party lawmaker of Trishal. Among others is Anisur Rahman Manik, 70, an ex-lawmaker from Jatiya Party in 1988.
Md Abul Kalam, 68, a regional organiser during 1971, filed the case with a Mymensingh court, reports our local correspondent quoting the case statement.
All the 25 accused were named. They were allegedly linked with Muslim League, Islami Chhatra Sangha and Nezami Islami in the locality, and subsequently got involved with Razakar force and Peace Committees.
The accused later led different anti-liberation organisations and continued killings, lootings, rape, torture on women, torching houses and forced religious conversions to Islam.
Advocate Abdur Rahman Al-Hussain Taz moved for the complainant. The court sent the case to International War Crimes Tribunal for investigation, the lawyer told The Daily Star.
