RMG workers stage demo in Mirpur

Vandalise several vehicles

Hundreds of garment workers blocked a road in Mirpur-12 of Dhaka for three hours this morning demanding compensation in fear of losing jobs due to relocation of their factory from Mirpur to another place.

Nearly 500 to 600 workers of Trust Trouser Garment staged demonstration blocking the road in Mirpur-12 bus stand area since 9:00am, Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Dadon Fakir told The Daily Star.

They also vandalised several vehicles demanding their arrears, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports.

The workers had an altercation with the factory authorities over the compensation for several days, said OC Dadon Fakir.

A meeting will be held tomorrow between the authorities and the workers to solve the problems, he added.
