Dhaka University observed Shamsunnahar Hall Tragedy Day yesterday demanding exemplary punishment for those involved in the assault on students of the hall on the day in 2002.
On that day, cops entered the hall at night, dragged the students out of the dormitory and abused them as they were protesting the illegal stay of some leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal in the hall. A day after the attack, the whole university protested the incident, forcing the then vice chancellor and proctor of the university to resign.
Observing the day yesterday, Bangladesh Chhatra League, DU unit brought out a silent procession from Aparajeya Bangla.
They held a short rally afterwards with lit candles.
At the rally, DU BCL President Abid Al Hasan said exemplary punishment for those responsible for the attack must be ensured as soon as possible.
