Woman beats husband to death in Kafrul
A woman allegedly beat her husband to death with a cricket bat over domestic dispute, in the city’s Kafrul area yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Babul Akter, 35, an employee of Directorate General of Health Services.
His wife Rima Begum has gone into hiding along with their seven-year-old son following the death, police said.
Victim’s father Rifaz Uddin said his son was sleeping in, as it was weekend. At around 9am, Rima took their son’s cricket bat and hit Babul’s head indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured. Babul’s mother Soneka Begum, 60, also sustained injuries as she tried to stop Rima.
Both were rushed to National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital immediately, and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Babul died at the hospital around 4:30pm. Soneka Begum is being treated at DMCH, Rifaz told The Daily Star.
Rifaz said the couple got married nine years ago. After a couple of years, Rima started to suspect her husband of having an affair.
Last year, Rima filed a dowry case against her husband following a domestic dispute. Babul then divorced her wife.
Months later, Rima’s family proposed a negotiation, and Babul accepted it, considering the future of their son, Rifaz said.
Md Selimuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kafrul Police Station, said they came to know that the couple had been having disagreements for a long time.
Police are trying to arrest the woman, he said.
